Hair Transplant Sydney

The decision to address hair loss is personal and can have various effects on daily interactions and aspects of life. We understand the importance of a treatment that aligns with each patient’s unique needs and expectations. At our clinic, we’ve chosen to offer the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method utilising the NeoGraft Automated Hair Transplantation system. This method involves removing individual hair follicles from the scalp in their naturally occurring groupings and placing them in the areas where hair loss has occurred.

What potential benefits does the NeoGraft hair transplantation procedure offer?

It’s important to remember that every individual is unique and so too are their needs and desired outcomes for cosmetic surgery. If you’re considering a procedure, it’s essential to have a comprehensive consultation with one of our experienced surgeons. They can help you understand whether you’re a suitable candidate and what you can realistically expect from the surgery. The information provided here is meant to help guide you, but it’s not a replacement for professional medical advice. Always organise a consultation for personalised advice.

If you are concerned about the way you look or are thinking about cosmetic surgery for confidence reasons, there are alternatives. Talking to a counsellor or psychologist may help you overcome your concerns about your appearance.

Minimally Invasive: NeoGraft is considered one of the least invasive procedures for hair transplantation, but like any procedure, it still carries potential risks and complications which should be discussed with your healthcare provider.
Hair Styling Flexibility: Following recovery, patients may have the flexibility to choose any hair style they prefer, short or long, but the full effects of the procedure may take some time to become apparent.
Natural Looking Results: The goal of the NeoGraft procedure is to restore the hairline with natural looking results. However, outcomes can vary depending on individual circumstances such as the extent of hair loss and the individual's hair growth pattern.
Discomfort: Many patients report feeling little to no discomfort during the NeoGraft procedure, although experiences may vary and some discomfort or sensitivity may be expected post-procedure.
No Stitches or Staples: The procedure does not typically involve the use of stitches or staples, potentially reducing associated recovery complications.
Minimal Scarring: The NeoGraft procedure aims to leave no unsightly or obvious scarring, although the extent of scarring can depend on individual healing responses.
Recovery Time: Recovery time is typically shorter with the NeoGraft procedure compared to some other hair transplantation methods. It is commonly expected to be about 72 hours, although individual recovery times may vary.

What to expect

Consultation

The initial step in the NeoGraft hair transplant process is a comprehensive consultation with our experienced surgeon. During this meeting, your aesthetic goals, medical history, and current hair condition will be assessed. The surgeon will evaluate your hair density, scalp health, and the areas where hair transplantation is needed. This consultation is an ideal opportunity for you to voice any concerns or ask any questions you may have about the procedure.

Preparation

Once the surgical plan has been mutually agreed upon, you will receive specific instructions on how to prepare for your NeoGraft hair transplant. These may include dietary guidelines, advice on smoking and alcohol consumption, specific instructions about medications or supplements, and hair care recommendations.

Surgery

A NeoGraft hair transplant typically takes four to eight hours and is usually performed under local anesthesia with sedation. The procedure involves two main stages: extraction and implantation. During extraction, individual hair follicles are harvested from the back of the scalp, a region resistant to hair loss. These harvested follicles are then prepared for transplantation. In the implantation stage, the hair follicles are meticulously inserted into the designated areas, following the natural direction of hair growth to achieve a natural-looking result.

Recovery

After the surgery, you’ll be monitored in a recovery room for a short period. Most patients can go home the same day. Mild discomfort, swelling, and redness in the treated areas are normal but will begin to subside after a few days.

Most patients feel ready to return to non-strenuous daily activities within a day or two, while more vigorous activities should be avoided for about a week. Regular follow-up appointments will be scheduled to monitor your progress and ensure a smooth recovery.

The final results of your NeoGraft hair transplant will become noticeable within a few months once the transplanted hair follicles start to grow, but the full effect may not be apparent for up to a year.

Considerations Before Cosmetic Surgery

While we aim to provide accurate information about the different surgical procedures available, it’s important to understand that the content provided here serves as a general guide only. The specifics of each surgery, including the procedure detailed above, can and will vary significantly from person to person, depending on their unique circumstances and physical characteristics.

Undergoing cosmetic surgery is a serious decision that requires ample thought, careful consideration, and meticulous planning. It should never be taken lightly or treated trivially, as it can have profound impacts on one’s lifestyle and wellbeing.

Recovery from cosmetic surgery, too, requires time, support, and proper aftercare. We strive to present realistic and transparent information about the recovery process, but individual experiences may vary. It is typical for recovery to involve certain services or requirements, such as the use of compression garments or receiving therapeutic massages. It also often necessitates significant lifestyle changes, which may include a period of absence from employment and temporary restrictions on certain activities.

In light of these considerations, we strongly encourage potential patients to engage in comprehensive discussions with their GP and our surgeons. The goal is to fully understand the implications, requirements, and likely outcomes of any chosen procedure, and to make informed decisions about their health and aesthetics.

General risks and complications of surgery include:

Substantial Hemorrhage: This involves severe blood loss from the area that underwent surgery, which may necessitate additional medical interventions.
Susceptibility to Infection: Post-surgery, the risk of infection can rise, potentially requiring either antibiotic treatment or subsequent surgical interventions.
Allergic Responses: Patients may exhibit allergic reactions to medical materials such as sutures, dressings, or antiseptic solutions used during and after the procedure.
Hematoma Formation: This involves the development of a sizable clot of blood beneath the incision site, which may necessitate medical drainage.
Post-Surgical Discomfort: Patients may experience pain, bruising, and swelling in the area surrounding the surgical site.
Scar Development: There's a risk of developing keloids or hypertrophic scars, which are elevated, red, and thickened scars over the healed incisions. Though they can be bothersome and aesthetically displeasing, they don't pose a direct health threat.
Delayed Healing Process: Healing can be sluggish, especially in patients with pre-existing conditions like diabetes or those who smoke.
Anaesthesia Risks: Patients may experience short-term nausea following general anaesthesia, along with other potential risks associated with anaesthesia.

Hair Transplant risks and complications include:

Follicle Survival Uncertainty: Not all transplanted follicles may survive the transfer process, which can affect the overall outcome and potentially require additional treatments.
Infection at Donor or Transplant Site: While this risk is generally low, it's possible for the donor site or the transplant site to develop an infection which would require treatment.
Scarring: Although Neograft aims to minimize scarring, some patients may still develop small scars in the donor area or the transplant site.
Hair Shading Variance: There may be slight differences in shading or texture between your original hair and the newly transplanted hair.
Unnatural Appearance: The transplanted hair may not look as natural as expected, especially if the transplant site is not prepared properly or the procedure is not conducted appropriately.
Folliculitis: This refers to the inflammation or infection of the hair follicles, which can cause discomfort and may require treatment.
Numbness or Altered Sensation: Patients may experience temporary or permanent numbness or altered sensation at the donor or transplant site.
Shock Loss: This is a temporary loss of transplanted as well as some of the healthy hair around the transplant area, caused by trauma from the surgical procedure. It's usually temporary, with hair growth resuming in a few weeks or months.

Disclaimer: Photographs shown above are actual patients from our clinic, who have given their consent for the use of their images purely for informational purposes. It is important to note that the results observed are subjective, and will differ based on each individual’s unique characteristics and the specific surgical or non-surgical techniques implemented. As with all procedures, both surgical and non-surgical, there are inherent risks involved.

Despite our efforts to maintain standardisation in our before and after photos, certain inconsistencies, such as differences in lighting, posture, facial expression, hairstyle, and make-up, may still exist between images. For a more comprehensive understanding of potential results, additional surgical result photographs can be viewed during a private consultation at our clinic located in Double Bay, NSW.

Additionally, we wish to emphasise that individual outcomes can greatly differ. The results experienced by one person should not be viewed as an exact indication of the results that others may experience. Such variations are due to a multitude of factors, including an individual’s genetics, diet, and exercise regimen.

How Much Does Hair Transplant Cost?

Your personalised quote will be prepared following an in-depth evaluation by our expert surgeon. This includes a thorough assessment of your individual needs, detailed explanation of the procedure, and a tailored approach to best achieve the desired outcomes. The quote considers various elements including surgical supplies, hospital requirements, and the specifics of the surgery itself.

Potential rebates might be available if the procedure is deemed medically necessary by relevant health authorities. Conditions for this include providing evidence supporting the medical necessity of the surgery and a referral from a healthcare professional. Your private health insurance may also provide coverage, so it’s essential to discuss this with your provider.

FAQ

We understand that patients are looking for a fixed price when it comes to understanding hair transplant costs. Several variables can impact the cost of the procedure. After an examination we can determine if you are a suitable candidate for a hair transplant. It isn’t until then that we can provide you a final cost of the procedure. We provide an individualised service for our FUE hair transplantation therefore our prices will be individualised to reflect that.
Unlike the FUT technique, FUE doesn’t leave a long, thin scar at the donor area. However, they can cause pinpoint scarring where follicles are removed. Most of the time these scars aren’t noticeable, but they may be visible if you shave your head or wear your hair very short.
Our team provides the maximum support and instruction available to ensure your recovery is quick and as easy as possible. Because you have experienced a minimally invasive hair transplant procedure, your recovery time is quite quick. Most people return to their jobs days after the procedure and go back to their usual routine within 2 weeks.Your surgeon can give you specific expectations and recommendations about how to take care of your grafts post-surgery.
A well performed hair transplant procedure should be undetectable. In saying that, the experience and skill of the team is critical in ensuring a great outcome. Our team have extensive experience and take the utmost care in ensuring a natural and undetectable look.
To have a positive experience post procedure we want all patients to understand the hair growth phases. Approximately 4-5 days after the procedure, your newly transplanted hair in the recipient area(s) will begin to shed (also known as the dormant phase). This process is completely normal as our hair grows in phases. Once all the hairs have fallen out the follicles enter the so-called resting phase. This phase lasts about 2-2.5 months. Between 3-6 months post op your hair will enter the growth phase. This is where you can get excited about your procedure. After 12 months we consider your procedure recovery to be complete. In reality, your hair may not stick to that exact schedule. Growth rates differ from person to person.
For us to confirm an exact number, we require an assessment by our surgeons. This assessment is done during your consultation. Individual requirements vary and depend on factors including the size of the area being treated and the quality of the donor hair.
NeoGraft is one of the newest and most advanced hair transplantation techniques. The Neograft provides a more time efficient extraction. This then ensures that the grafts are out of the head for a shorter period. The shorter the grafts are out of the head the more likely the grafts are going to survive the transplant process and grow. The semi-automated technology of the Neograft Removes Human error, by ensuring grafts aren’t damaged with surgical instruments. The machine counts grafts recovered so you know exactly how many grafts have been harvested and planted.
